What stamp size means

There is no single rule. In India, stamp size usually means a photo about 2.0 cm wide and 2.5 cm high (20 × 25 mm), and that is what the tool makes by default. We looked for a government document that defines it and could not open one, so check your form: if it gives other numbers, enter them under My own size.

How it works

  1. Add a photo of your face, from the shoulders up, on a plain light background.
  2. Keep 2.0 × 2.5 cm or enter the size your form gives under My own size. We crop from the centre to that shape.
  3. Pick the KB, check the meter and download the JPG.

Stamp size and passport size

Stamp size is the smaller of the two: about 2.0 × 2.5 cm against 3.5 × 4.5 cm for passport size. A form that says passport size needs the larger photo; see passport size photo size in cm.

Questions

What is the size of a stamp size photo in cm?

In India it usually means about 2.0 cm wide and 2.5 cm high (20 × 25 mm). No rule fixes it, so if your form gives other numbers, use those.

How many pixels is a stamp size photo?

At 300 DPI, 2.0 × 2.5 cm is 236 × 295 pixels. At 200 DPI it is 157 × 197. The pixels and the DPI written in the file are shown with the result.

Can I print it?

The file has 300 DPI written in it, so it prints at 2.0 × 2.5 cm when printed at actual size (not "fit to page"). For a sheet of several photos, print it a few times on one page.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

Forms rarely say. We count your minimum at 1,024 bytes per KB and your maximum at 1,000, so the file passes either way of counting. The result shows the exact bytes.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The resizing runs inside your browser, on your phone or computer. We tested every page with a network log: no request carried the picture. See the privacy page for the details.
