About these sizes

PPSC: less than 25 KB in its PPSC Online Application Procedure (step 3, Images Uploading); not more than 60 KB in its Photograph Guidelines. PDF files dated 29 Apr 2024 and 3 Oct 2022. Both are on ppsc.gop.pk. FPSC: less than 30 KB in its Guidelines for Online Application Submission, updated 9 Sep 2025. Read by us 5 Nov 2026. The cm sizes are PPSC’s minimums, saved at 300 DPI (our choice; PPSC gives no DPI). Why two PPSC limits?

PPSC gives two KB limits

PPSC’s Photograph Guidelines say the photo and the CNIC front image should each be not more than 60 KB. Its PPSC Online Application Procedure (step 3, Images Uploading) says the image should be less than 25 KB. Neither shows a date on the page, but the PDF files are dated 29 Apr 2024 (60 KB) and 3 Oct 2022 (25 KB), so the 60 KB guideline is probably the newer one. A file under 25 KB meets both, so the PPSC presets stop there to be safe. If the upload screen in your form says 60 KB, open My own size and enter 60 as the maximum, with 3.5 × 4.5 cm and 300 DPI for the photo. We found no PPSC note that settles it.

PPSC: photo and CNIC, step by step

  1. Take the photo: recent, in colour, on a white background, full head and shoulders, no cap or glasses, looking straight at the camera with a neutral expression. Do not cut it from a larger picture.
  2. Photograph the front of your CNIC flat, in good light, and crop it to the card edges.
  3. Here, pick PPSC photo, add the photo and download. Then pick PPSC CNIC, add the card picture and download.
  4. In the PPSC online application, upload both at step 3, Images Uploading.

The Photograph Guidelines warn that a photo that does not follow the guidelines can stop you sitting the exam.

FPSC: photo, step by step

  1. Crop your photo to head and shoulders. FPSC gives no size in cm or pixels, so the FPSC preset keeps your photo’s shape; we don’t add a size FPSC did not give.
  2. Here, pick FPSC photo, add it and download. The result is a JPG under 30 KB.
  3. On the FPSC site, click Apply Online, select your post and complete Step 1, including the fee by PSID.
  4. Click Proceed to Step-2 and upload the file at “Upload softcopy of your passport size picture” (guidelines, para 43).

Questions

Is the PPSC photo limit 25 KB or 60 KB?

PPSC’s own documents disagree. The Photograph Guidelines say not more than 60 KB; the Online Application Procedure says less than 25 KB. A file under 25 KB meets both, so we start there. If your form screen shows 60 KB, use My own size with a maximum of 60 for a sharper picture.

Do I need two images for PPSC?

Yes. The procedure asks for your latest photograph and the front of your CNIC. Make each one here: pick PPSC photo and save it, then pick PPSC CNIC and add the card picture.

What size in cm is the PPSC photo?

The Photograph Guidelines give at least 4.5 cm high and 3.5 cm wide, in colour, on a white background. PPSC gives no DPI, so we save it at 300 DPI and round the pixels up, so the file is at least that size.

What size in cm or pixels does FPSC want?

The FPSC guidelines do not give one. They ask for a recent passport size picture, JPG or JPEG, under 30 KB, so the FPSC preset keeps your photo’s shape. Crop it to head and shoulders first. If your post’s advertisement gives a size, enter it under My own size.

Why does my CNIC picture look soft?

A whole card at 8.6 × 5.4 cm has to fit in under 25 KB, so the quality goes down. Crop your picture to the card edges first, so no desk or background takes up bytes.

Why stop at 24.9 KB, not 25?

Both PPSC (25 KB) and FPSC (30 KB) say less than. Stopping 100 bytes short keeps the file under the limit whether the form counts 1 KB as 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The resizing runs inside your browser, on your phone or computer. We tested every page with a network log: no request carried the picture. See the privacy page for the details.
